Java SE 5.0 Downloads. Go to the Oracle Java Archive page. Thank you for downloading this release of the Java TM Platform, Standard Edition Development Kit (JDK TM).The JDK is a development environment for building applications, applets, and components using the Java programming language. Many Adobe applications depend on the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for some features to work. Apple recently changed the way it includes Java in Mac OS, and with Lion, Java is no longer preinstalled. It is now an optional install that you must select. Mac OS X Yosemite (and the newer versions) are having a later version of Java Runtime (SE 8.0). However, Java Runtime is not backward compatible. So, even when the operating system have installed Java Runtime 8, it will NOT run apps that rely on Java Runtime 6.
Check the Java Home versions avaliable post the installation: $ /usr/libexec/java_home -V
